CultureCraft

29th July – 22nd August, 2013

The London Street Gallery is proud to be hosting CultureCraft - a curated exhibition which launches August Craft Month, 2013.

The exhibition showcases the work of 37 eminent designer-makers who have responded to the curator’s request for an object of their making which reflects their understanding of culture; of how material objects can carry a community’s shared history and reflect a cultural perspective.

There will be a wide range of craft disciplines on display from both emerging young makers and those who are at the forefront of their field.

Expect to see some very exciting and enriching pieces, embodying a wide variety of cultural identities and backgrounds.

The exhibition will be supported with a specially produced catalogue, featuring essays from a number of leading academics - including Dr Audrey Whitty, Dr Jessica Hemmings, Dr Josseph McBrinn and Professor Declan McGonagle - which aim to contextualise this exceptional exhibition and convey the importance of Craft to us all.

Excitingly for the City, the CultureCraft exhibition will mark the first time August Craft Month will be launched here, and we look forward to the visit of Mr Alan Kane, Chief Executive of CraftNI, to mark the event.
